Common questions
Straight answers to the things we get asked most.
Getting started
Do we need a full-time data hire?
Probably not yet. Most early-stage teams need 2–3 months of focused setup work, not a full-time analyst. We help you build the right foundation without over-committing to headcount you may not need for another year.
How long does a typical engagement take?
Depends on scope, but most foundational setups take 4–8 weeks. Some teams start with a single dashboard sprint — 1–2 weeks — and go from there. We'll scope it honestly before you commit to anything.
What does the process look like?
We start with a scoping call to understand your data, your tools, and what you actually need. From there, we'll propose a specific engagement — timeline, deliverables, and cost — and you decide if it makes sense to move forward.
Data & tools
What data sources do you work with?
We work with most common startup data stacks — Postgres, MySQL, Stripe, Shopify, HubSpot, Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Airtable, and more. If you're not sure whether we can work with your stack, just ask.
Do we need to have our data in a warehouse first?
No. Many teams we work with start with data spread across their production database, a SaaS tool, and a Google Sheet. Part of what we do is figure out the right architecture for where you are.
Will you tell us what tools to use?
We'll make recommendations based on your situation, but we're not tied to any particular stack. We work with the tools you already have when possible, and suggest additions only when they clearly justify the cost.
Data engineering & analytics
Do you provide data engineering services, or just analytics?
Both. Data engineering — pipelines, warehouses, data modeling, schema design — and analytics consulting — dashboards, reporting, self-serve tooling — are two sides of the same problem for most early-stage teams. We cover whichever parts you need.
What does 'analytics consulting' actually mean in practice?
It means we work alongside your team to figure out what metrics matter, build the infrastructure to track them reliably, and deliver reporting your team will actually use. It's not just handing you charts — we help you understand what to measure and why.
What if we already have some data infrastructure in place?
Great — that's common. We'll assess what you have, identify the gaps, and build on what's working rather than starting over. Most teams are further along than they think; they just need the right layer on top.
About Fabi
Is Fabi a tool or a service provider?
Both. Fabi is a BI and analytics platform you can use directly, and we also offer hands-on services — data engineering, dashboard buildout, analytics consulting — for teams that want expert help getting set up. You can use the tool on its own, work with us on a project, or both.
Ownership & independence
Will we be dependent on you long-term?
No — that's not the goal. We build things your team can own and maintain. Every engagement includes documentation and a handoff. We're happy to stay on for ongoing support, but you won't need us for day-to-day questions.
Who owns the dashboards and infrastructure we build together?
You do, completely. Everything we build lives in your accounts, your tools, your repositories. We don't create any lock-in.
How is this different from hiring a freelance data analyst?
We bring a full stack perspective: data strategy, infrastructure, tooling, and AI enablement — not just query writing. And because we've set up dozens of data stacks, we move faster and make fewer wrong turns.
Still have questions?
We're happy to talk through your specific situation.
